The Position

Great Lakes Mental Health is now hiring size-inclusive therapists for full and part time positions. Come be a part of a supportive, collaborative team that invests in your future! Our clinic strongly values supporting our staff in growing as clinicians, not just racking up clinical hours.

We are looking for therapists who are passionate about providing high-quality, effective outpatient care to adults with a wide range of concerns. Our most common presenting problems are depression, anxiety disorders (especially social phobia and GAD), body image issues and relationship difficulties. Clinicians see approximately 10-25 individual clients per week, with the opportunity to be involved in groups/workshops.

We are especially interested in therapists who are interested in working with clients who are plus-sized or identify as fat. In particular, our clinic is increasing its efforts to serve clients in bigger bodies. We will be launching a series of workshops and groups and need therapists who would like to engage with this important work. Great Lakes Mental Health believes all bodies are good bodies. Therapists must be willing to work from a Health At Every Size (HAES) framework. This means successful applicants must be comfortable working with clients of all sizes and be willing to work on body-image, self-esteem, and physical/mental wellness while rejecting diet culture, fat phobia and body shame. Prior knowledge in these areas is not required. New hires will be provided with training in this area. We are open to clinicians who have limited experience in these arenas, and will provide training to individuals and supervision as needed. We do not provide weight loss services and will not do so as there are no empirically validated non-surgical/medication based diets or behavioral interventions that lead to significant and sustainable weight loss (please message Erin if you'd like citations or to talk-I'm always happy to chat about the science of fatness). We currently do not provide bariatric evaluations.

Therapists must have an understanding of how intersecting identities impact client presentation and progress. Therapists must be able and willing to examine how a client has been and continues to be impacted by factors such as their race/color, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality/immigration status, history of interaction with the legal system, ability/disability, size/shape and SES. Understanding of one’s own identities and willingness to continue to learn are critical.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in working with with LGBT+ populations. Familiarity with current WPATH standards and experience with clients undergoing gender affirmative care is preferred.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a masters degree or doctorate in a mental health field. Fully licensed (LP, LPC, LMSW) and limited license candidates (LLP, TLLP) are welcome. Successful candidates must demonstrate solid clinical knowledge and skill, including diagnosis (DSM-5-TR) and treatment. Knowledge of empirically supported treatments such as CBT, DBT, and/or ACT preferred. Ideal candidates have a desire to continue their education and growth as a therapist and to support others doing the same. Preference will be given to fully licensed therapists interested in provision of supervision. Individual clinical interests are supported and encouraged. Timely, detail-oriented documentation is a must.

We strongly value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds/identities to apply. Great Lakes Mental Health is an equal opportunity employer.

Compensation

The positions offer flexible hours, competitive pay and no-cost supervision with Dr. Erin Hunt-Carter as needed (supervision for LLMSW and limited license counseling psychologists can be negotiated). Pay increases with experience and level of licensure (beginning at 50% split for masters level temporary licensed clinicians straight out of graduate school). We value your time and expertise and provide all of the structure and assistance you need so that you can forget about spending time returning calls or dealing with insurance and focus on providing excellent clinical care. There is no call, and you will not be asked to work overtime. You will be offered opportunities for no-cost ongoing education (average $300 per year).

Hate admin work? Billing, advertising, liability insurance, and administrative assistance are provided. We use TherapyNotes for our EHR, and all documentation is electronic. Assistance with credentialing will be provided. All therapists are W2 employees-so there are no tax surprises at the end of the year.

Clinicians have the option to work remotely or to work from the central office in Dexter. Most therapists do a combination of in-person and online work.
